Budapest weather is definitely not boring, given that Hungary lies in the temperate sector.  Oceanic, continental, and Mediterranean temperature regions influence and structure the country's weather. Hungary lies in the Carpathian Basin that provides both protection and isolation. Consequently weather in Budapest and in the entire country tends to be variable and is typified by four seasons that follow each other in a steady cycle.

Budapest illustrates its appeal best in spring and early autumn, though most travelers visit the city in summer. Winter in Budapest is rather cold and grey, but you'll find plenty of indoor attractions.

Spring weather in Budapest
Budapest weather in spring is usually magnificent with abundant sunshine and scattered showers. In spring the city awakens from its winter slumber, the first blossoms on the trees materialize and sunshine embraces the atmosphere and our faces. Spring flowers, trees, and grass in an array of green shades create a refreshing change after the overcast winter days.

Budapest weather in March and early on in April is quite unpredictable; time and again it experiences strong winds. In the succeeding half of April and in May days develop warmer patterns, daily temperature rising up to between 20-25 °C.

The temperature begins to increase noticeably in April, highs usually reaching 25°C towards the end of the month, although short cold spells with lows between 0-5°C, and frosty grounds can often intercept May’s otherwise fine weather disposition.

Spring is perfect for visiting the attractions and taking leisurely walks in the green parts of Budapest; places like Margaret Island or the Buda Hills are truly a feast for the eyes, while the renowned Budapest Spring Festival is considered by many to be the city’s peak cultural event.

Summer weather in Budapest
Budapest Weather in summer (during the months of June through to August), and is characterized by its Jekyll and Hyde personality: long-drawn-out hot, dry periods with mercury rising to between 32-35°C, switching to short, chilly, wet periods following cold fronts from the West with a high of between 18-25°C. On a daily basis temperature can reach well over 30°C, especially in July and August.

Budapest marks the northernmost summit for hot summers on the continent, the highest temperature ever documentation was 40, 7°C on July 20, 2007. Scientists believe that the effects of global warming will result in extreme hot summers in the future.

Humidity is by and large high in summer; the air remains humid throughout the day, evenings are usually very warm, and temperatures of above 25°C at midnight are not rare. Violent thunderstorms with heavy gust of airs and torrential rainfall are frequent. Unexpected spells of rain can occur, so have your umbrella handy.

Budapest weather reaches a peak pf 2000 hours of sunlight per year while longer days mean an overflow of tourists taking in the sights the city has to offer.  The evenings are warm and pleasant, so make sure to take in the many pleasurable outdoor activities, or just sit on a terrace of a café or restaurant.

Autumn weather in Budapest

The emergence of September also signals the arrival of the autumn season that runs all the way through to November. Characterized by warm days and no scorching heat, early autumn is an ideal time for going to places of interest; walking the streets of Budapest , admiring the stunning golden and reddish leaves on the trees. Sunlight gives a mysterious misty atmosphere to the city. A perfect time to take stunning photos about Budapest.

Occasionally the first weeks of October present themselves with nice sunny days. This period is called vénasszonyok nyara in Hungarian (old women's summer) or Indian summer, and can last for a few weeks.

Autumn temperatures can stay above 20°C until the end of October. Nights become colder and the first frost arrives generally in the second week of October. Short cool spells punctuate the otherwise fine weather patterns.

Budapest weather in November brings abundant precipitation; this is sometimes followed by snow and a radical fall in temperatures that see mercury plummet to below 0 °C. As November leads the way to winter shorter, grey, and overcast days dominate conditions. Temperatures plummet below 0 °C (32°F) especially in the evenings.

Winter weather in Budapest
Winter in Budapest coincides with the months of December through to February. Winters are variable and unpredictable from year to year. Westerly winds bring mild oceanic air with highs between 5-10°C, scant frost, scattered rain or snow showers are the norm. Occasionally very cold weather lasts for a few days, with temperatures around -10°C, with evenings being particularly freezing. January is the coldest month, with daily temperatures oscillating between -5°C and 0°C.

Despite the cold conditions, Budapest weather during the winter season experiences considerably low levels of snowfall. What’s more, the little snow that finds its way to the ground tends to melt ways within a few days, allowing sunny days with crystal blue skies to dominate conditions.
